Transformative Teaching is a leading force in faculty development. Today’s healthcare system requires a different approach to workforce development in nursing and health professions  Transformative Teaching has developed a model for teaching that leverages the latest research in pedagogy, simulation based education, and the neuroscience of learning to give health professions faculty the skills they need to create the competent reflective practitioner that is required by todays’ complex healthcare system.

From Feedback to Coaching

The role of nursing faculty is evolving—from content expert to Faculty Coach. In competency-based education, this role centers on formative assessment and high-quality feedback that actively supports learner growth.

This highly interactive workshop develops a coaching mindset and equips faculty to lead effective coaching conversations across classroom, clinical, and simulation settings. Grounded in the neuroscience of learning, the workshop creates a learning environment that is both psychologically safe and appropriately challenging—enabling faculty to strengthen performance, deepen reflection, and accelerate competency development.

From Connection to Content

Teaching That Engages the Modern Learner

Faculty are often asked to teach differently—without being shown how or why. As student expectations and educational technologies rapidly change, teaching practices in classrooms, clinical settings, and simulation must evolve as well.

21st Century Teaching equips faculty to update their instructional approach by grounding teaching decisions in the neuroscience of learning. Using psychological safety as a foundational construct, this workshop helps faculty design learning experiences that better engage today’s learners while maintaining academic rigor across the curriculum.

Scaffolding for Competence

Faculty are often asked to teach differently—without being shown how or why. As learner expectations, educational technologies, and learning environments evolve, teaching in the classroom, clinical, and simulation settings must become more intentional and developmentally aligned. 4 hours All workshops can be delivered in virtual or in-person format

Readiness Planning and SimZones equips faculty with a practical framework for intentionally scaffolding learning based on learner readiness. Using the SimZones model, participants learn how to align instructional strategies, feedback, and performance expectations to support progressive skill development while maintaining academic rigor across the curriculum.

Beyond Judgement

Supportive Assessment in CBE

Summative assessment moments are often stressful for both faculty and students—particularly in competency-based education, where assessment decisions carry significant weight. Well-designed supportive assessment systems can create valid summative moments in which both learners and faculty are prepared to perform at their best. Supportive Assessment in Competency-Based Education explores how to design summative assessments that are equitable, rigorous, and instructionally aligned. This workshop helps faculty intentionally prepare learners for assessment, clarify performance expectations, and create assessment systems that support reliable judgments while advancing learning across the curriculum.

SimReady

Designing Competency-Based Simulation for Healthcare Training

Integrating simulation into competency-based education is critical for preparing learners to enter practice with confidence and competence. Meaningful integration moves simulation beyond the traditional laboratory and into classrooms, clinical environments, and any setting where learning takes place. In this interactive workshop, faculty will broaden their understanding of how simulation can be leveraged across the full arc of the curriculum. Through active learning, participants will design and refine simulation-based learning activities informed by principles of the neuroscience of learning. Attendees will leave with practical, scalable strategies for embedding simulation throughout competency-based programs.
